IVCC ADMISSIONS ON TWITTER
    The Illinois Valley Community College Office of Admissions and Records is now on Twitter under the username “ivadmiss.”
    According to Tracy Morris, director of admissions and records, the college is “using this as a new way to communicate reminders and events with students.” 
Student can become followers of the IVCC Admissions office by linking to the Admissions Web page at www.ivcc.edu/admissions.
    Twitter is an online community that asks one question, "What are you doing?" Answers must be under 140 characters in length and can be sent via mobile texting, instant message or the Web.

FICEK RECIEVES WAIVER
    Illinois Valley Community College student Kaylee Ficek has been named as a recipient of the Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver.
The Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver is an award provided by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Applicants must be enrolled or accepted at one of the four year public universities in Illinois and seeking initial certification in an area of special education. ISAC awards 250 tuition waivers annually.
    After graduating from IVCC in May, Ficek will transfer to Illinois State University to study Speech Pathology. "I’ve always wanted to be a teacher and I’d really like to work in a grade school. I’m looking forward to helping kids." Ficek is currently a student worker in the IVCC counseling center. "She does a great job," said Linda Hawkins, Ficek’s supervisor, "Kaylee is one of the best student workers I’ve ever had." Ficek enrolled at IVCC after learning from several sources about the programs and services offered. "My aunt,        Debbie Burch, is a guidance counselor at IVCC and has advised me." Ficek praised IVCC for its convenience and its supportive environment. "And it’s close to home."

CAPSTONE PROJECT SUDENTS PRESENT ON GLOBAL CONCERNS
    Illinois Valley Community College’s International Education students will present on Global concerns as part of the Introduction to Global Studies Capstone Project. The last day of presentations will take place May 8 from noon to 12:50 in Room D-325.
    Introduction to Global Studies is the core course for the Certificate in International Studies offered at IVCC. Students enrolled in this course select international topics to research and present on in groups. The topic for session one presentation is Human Rights, session two students will present on Global Poverty and the session three topic will be Global Disease.
    Global Studies presenters include Sarah Berry of Streator, Matt Devine of Spring Valley, Jodi Fiocchi of Ladd, Tonya Fitzpatrick of Spring Valley, Michael Gray of LaSalle, Stephen Hall of Earlville, Brandon LaChance of Mendota, Heather Link of Ottawa, Kenny Lunn of Peru, Destiny Sedlock of Streator and Mary Tully of Tiskilwa.
    The presentations are free and open to the public and pizza will be provided.
