Students thinking about Financial Aid are advised to apply
as soon as possible for the fall semester of 2009.
“There isn’t a specific deadline; as long as you apply by
April 1 you’ll be okay at IVCC,” said Steve Crick, Financial Aid director.
“Students should fill out the FAFSA form as soon as they get their tax returns.”
An estimated 55 percent of students attending IVCC apply for
financial aid and are rewarded some type of assistance, whether it is small or
even substantial amounts of money. A
ccording to Crick, the other 45 percent don’t apply because
“they think they’re not going to qualify.”
What students may not know is that even if they are applying
for a loan, they still need to complete the FAFSA forms. Student loans are the
biggest program at IVCC.
There are many forms of aid available through financial aid
services if you qualify. Loans and grants are intended to assist students in
financing their education.
Sophomore Rich Green said, “I receive enough aid for tuition
and books. I also receive a MAP grant that helps.”
Applying for financial aid is free when you fill out the
FAFSA online or in paper form.
“Apply for financial aid even if you think you won’t get
accepted because your parents have a lot of money,” said Crick.
Financial aid is critical to some students.
“Without financial aid I would never be able to continue my
education. Receiving the grants has set me on track to finally achieving my
associate’s degree and has allowed me to move on to ISU in the fall,” Green
added.
For more information look online or go to the financial aid
office, which is located in C-223. The office is to the left of the main lobby.
The Financial Aid staff is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday during the fall and spring semesters.
