MLK essay contest winners announced

March 19, 2009

IVCC’s Diversity Team will host a public reading of the 2009 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest winners from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19 in IVCC’s Fireplace Lounge, Room B-216.
The Diversity Team received 18 entries in the contest this year, all of which received praise from the panel of judges.
"This was a very tough year," said one of the judges. "I wish all of the stories told in these entries could be seen by the public."
Willie James Scott Jr. received first place honors for his entry titled "Letter to My Son"; second place was Alison Green for her entry titled "The Summer Before Summer"; and third place Hallie Huffman, for her entry "The Scary Movie Shivers."
Winners will receive a cash reward and certificate from the diversity team. The winners will read their entries and entertain questions following their presentations. This event is open to the public.
The winning essays can be fond on the IVCC Web site.
