Become a Seeker in “Seekers 2: Great Bear Lake” by Erin Hunter.
Lusa, the escaped black bear from the Vancouver Zoo has finally found Toklo, the grizzly bear. After his brother’s death and his mother’s abandonment, he has no interest about learning about his mother’s final days.
Determined to make it on his own, he continues on his journey with the shape-shifting cub, Ujurak, and Lusa along for the ride.
Meanwhile Kallik, the orphaned polar bear cub, struggles to survive after nearly dying in a plane crash when she was being relocated. With the help of her new friend, she continues her search for her brother Taqqiq.
Guided by the voice of her deceased mother Kallik is drawn inwards away from her native ice and towards a mysterious lake. After a tiring journey and some near encounters with flat faces (humans) and their monsters (cars) the four cubs have at last made it to Great Bear Lake. Here on the Longest Day bears of all species gather to honor their ancestors and perform a ceremonial call that will bring back the food and land the bears so desperately need.
But not all is well. Soon the three cubs are under a trial by fire. Lusa, who has never been among her wild cousins, must learn as much as she can to survive. Between perfecting her climbing and learning what food is good to eat, she has a lot to catch up with.
But when her new friend Miki is kidnapped by mad polar bears can she summon the courage to act and prove she’s no weak little black bear? Toklo has his own rite of passage to go through.
After a little encouragement from Ujurak and his fellow grizzlies, Toklo decides to spend a day on Paw Print Island. If he can do this he’ll accomplish more then restoring the faith in spirits. Kallik finds her brother, but he’s changed for the worse.
Can she unite with her new friends and save the Longest Day?
Erin Hunter has also written the “Warrior Cats” series along with this one.
