Beyer hosts book discussion
    Philosophy professor Jason Beyer will be moderating a book discussion of Michael Eric Dyson’s “Come Hell or High Water” on Feb. 27 from noon-2 p.m. in B-216. The program is being jointly sponsored by the Diversity Team, the Office of International Education, and POWER. The book addresses the role that race played in the Hurricane Katrina disaster, in terms of such things as who was primarily affected and why, how the media portrayed the survivors, and how aid was delivered. The Library has copies and the bookstore will also have copies for sale. 

Edible Car Contest entries
    This year’s Edible Car Contest will be in the Lobby on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Students of students or faculty and staff may enter their designs. Cars will be judged in areas such as speed, design and creativity. For more information, go to www.ivcc.edu/mimic. The Edible Car Contest is sponsored by Occupational Technologies and the National Science Foundation for National Engineering Week.

Foundation scholarships due
    The IVCC Foundation Scholarship applications for the 2008-2009 school year must be submitted to the Foundation Office by Friday, Feb. 29 at 4:30 p.m. Most scholarships are awarded to full-time students unless otherwise indicated. Criteria for some awards varies. Scholarship recipients will be notified in June. For more information, students can visit the Foundation Website at www.ivcc.edu/foundation.

MLK Jr., Writing Contest submissions
    The MLK Jr. Writing Contest is open to all full- and part-time IVCC students, and can be written in any style. The submission deadline is Saturday, Feb. 9. Entries can be sent to Amanda Bigelow, in Room D-307, or dropped off in the HFASS division office, in Room E-208. There are $100, $75, and $50 awards given to the writers of the top three essays. 

Spring Graduation deadline
    Applications for Spring Graduation are due by Friday, Feb. 15 in Admissions. There is no fee to apply.

Organ donation awareness planned
    IVCC student Luke McConville is in the process of setting up an organ donation drive for the week of Valentine’s Day. The drive will create awareness to the changes in the ways to donate organs. For information contact McConville at lom_07@yahoo.com
