This will be the first year in six that the Illinois Valley Community College men’s golf team will not win the Arrowhead Conference.
Instead, they will finish second behind Blackhead College. Blackhawk has beaten IVCC narrowly in nearly all the events that the teams played.
Sophomore Kyle Shevlin, freshman Derrick Sherard and freshman Todd Greskoviak will be part of the top-10 All-Conference team, according to coach Mike Riley.
At the Monmouth College, Gibson Woods Invitational, IVCC finished fourth out of 16 teams, most of which came from four-year schools, and shot a 301 on the par 71 course.
Early in the season there were some problems with consistent playing and Riley said that the team had lost some close games and was not “firing on all cylinders.”
“At the Highland Invitational, which Blackhawk won, the team played through the rain and the hail.” Riley went on to say, “Kyle Shevlin missed a 3 foot putt because the ball deflected off a small piece of hail.”
