Schedule conflicts lead to coach’s resignation

Laurie Polte, the head coach of the women’s volleyball team, has resigned from Illinois Valley Community College this year due to conflicts in her schedule, but she will still be active in the Club Fusion volleyball club.
Next season, the volleyball games will be played on Tuesday and Thursdays. For the past few years the games were on Monday and Wednesday.
Polte’s daughters, Kelsey, a senior, and Erin, a freshman, at Hall High school will also have volleyball games on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Athletic Director Mike Riley joked, “I said that I was going to fire her if she didn’t resign to see her daughter’s games.”
He went on to say, “Laurie has done a tremendous job here and we are very fortunate to have her. She has always been one of the very best coaches in the area. She will be sorely missed. I hope that she would consider coming back to IV someday.”
Currently, a pool of applications will be reviewed by the hiring committee and hopefully a coach will be named by the end of May.
Practices and games for next season will start in August.
