After 37 years of teaching psychology, Jerry Annel is looking
foreword to his retirement from IVCC at the end of this semester.
"We're expecting grandchildren, and I can't wait to travel
down and see them," stated Annel.
Throughout his career, Annel has instructed at Carl Sandburg
Community College and Eureka College as well as Illinois Valley. Currently, his
primary is Introduction to Psychology and he is also a professor for personality
and social psychology classes.
With a Bachelor's degree from Eureka College and a Master's
degree from Illinois State University, Annel can easily be seen as a qualified
professor. However, he has found that he can always learn from the students.
"When I began teaching, I thought all I would really need to
do is provide good tests and grade fairly. Surprisingly, in addition, I have
found it necessary to entertain and give good lectures," commented Annel.
Although past psychologists such as Sigmund Freud, B. F.
Skinner and Abraham Masku may be attributed to Annel's passion for psychology,
the students are what really kept him going.
"I enjoy relating to the students. In my career, I have
taught over 10,000 students, and I'd like to tell them all that I appreciate
having met and getting to know them," expressed Annel.
Annel has taught at IVCC for a total of 33 years. He will be
honored for all of his hard work and accomplishments during this year's
graduation ceremony.
