The women’s basketball team came out on a mission Jan. 25
against the Blackhawk East Warriors and came away with the win in a 57-38
contest of defense.
The Warriors played aggressively but the Eagles played an up
tempo game that limited their effectiveness.
Coach Steve Crick said that “the key to it was the first five
minutes of the game. We had been getting off to a slow start in all of our
previous games, so it was critical that we came out and jumped them right off
the bat.”
He said, “We got off to a 19 point lead in the first half and
then from that point on they played us even for the rest of the game.”
The women’s team seemed to respond to the solid inside game
of centers Deborah De Paula and Krystal Rosengren, who combined for 27 of the
Eagles 57 points.
Coach Crick said, “We haven’t had them both here and healthy
for a while. This is the best that they have played together all year.”
De Paula came off the bench and shot an amazing 75 percent
from the floor, giving her the team high of 15 points; she also grabbed 9
rebounds.
Rosengren chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots.
Tiffany Leonard gave the team 13 points, 4 assists, and 3
steals.
Margaret Carter had a quiet game with 9 points, 9 steals and
6 rebounds. Carter is currently ranked No. 5 for steals per game in Women’s
Division 2 basketball.
