This semester there has been a new member added to the team
of counselors in the counseling center.
Melissa Killian, who goes by Missy, is an Illinois State
University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s in
human services counseling.
During the time that she spent at ISU, she was active in
TV-10, a campus television station, and the campus radio station.
After finishing college, she went on to become an advisor for
Heartland Community College where she was employed for eight years prior to her
arrival at IVCC.
Outside of the career aspect of her life, Missy is married
with three children who are all under the age of 10.
Killian said she chose to be a counselor at IVCC because
"IVCC is an impressive college that offers great opportunities for students and
employees alike."
She also commented on what she likes the most about being a
counselor.
"I love the fact that you never know what to expect,” she
said. “Each student is an individual with unique needs and concerns."
Students may stop by the counseling center to welcome Killian
to IVCC or set up an appointment with her to discuss questions and concerns.
