The Eagles baseball team has been practicing for the past month and are anxiously awaiting their first game on March 1 against St. Charles in St. Louis.
IV is currently ranked number 12 in the nation’s preseason polls, thanks in part to 12 returning players from last year. According to Coach Bob Koopmann the team reloaded with a very talented freshman class to fill in the gaps left last year’s sophomore players.
Jake Milligan, Chad Bornemann, Ned Schauff, Ryan Wagner, Ben Albury, and Jim Sanew are the six captains for the Eagles squad.
Captain and third baseman Ben Albury said “Practice has been going great so far, and we are all really looking forward to the start of the season. We have a talented group here, and we are all ready to play some games.”
According to team members, the Eagles are looking forward to a trip to the MetroDome in Minnesota where they will face Iowa Central.
Koopmann said, “We’re all ready to play some games. It’s hard to practice in the gym, because the team can only do so much. Everyone is working hard, and we hope to continue the good work ethic.”
The Eagles first home game is Wednesday, March 19 against Illinois Central.
