The IVCC Women’s Basketball team was in search of key conference victories, and they got them. Five to be exact. That brings the overall record to 16-9 and 8-2 in conference.
The women are currently on a 6 game winning streak having won their last 5 conference games. They included wins over top-ranked Sauk Valley and Black Hawk. This brings the team to within one game of first place in the Arrowhead Conference.
“The team has gelled over the past two or three weeks,” says head coach Steve Crick. “Everyone has been contributing, it has been a full team effort.”
Leading this team effort has been Jonelle Yachlick. Scoring 27 points against Blackhawk and 25 against Sauk Valley.
“Jonelle has been stepping up and playing well,” said Crick.
With only 3 games left in the regular season, Crick said he is hoping to keep (the success) going for a while.
The games left include a key rematch against current conference-leading Blackhawk. This is a matchup which could be for the conference title.
Soon after this conference game, the team will be heading into the regional as the No. 1 seed. The top-seeded Eagles are set to begin regional play March 1.
