Graphic Design lab expanded over break

Over Christmas break the Graphic Design lab doubled in size, expanding from 10 to 20 computers.
Enrollment in the Graphic Design program, which was started in August 2001, has doubled and more computers were needed to meet this demand.
Instructor Francie Skoflanc said 15 students are in the one-year program and 25 in the two-year AAS Graphic Design program.
For the project to be completed, a wall in the existing lab had to be knocked out and more computers had to be ordered and set up.
Bruce Markwalter, facilitator of instructional technology, was in charge of setting up all the computers and is also in charge of maintenance on them.
The IVCC maintenance staff worked with outside subcontractors to complete the expansion in three weeks.
There was not much time to complete the project because it had to be finished before students came back for the spring semester.
Classes offered in the new lab are Adobe Go Live, Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark, Visual Communications and Design Solutions.
Another expansion may be needed in the future. Already, there are not enough spaces to seat all of the students.
