Spring Graduation
Applications for spring graduation are now available in the Student Services Center.
The deadline to apply for May graduation is Monday, Feb. 3. Once completed, the forms must be turned in to the cashier with the graduation application fee.
Nursing Program
Nursing program applicants are currently being reviewed for acceptance in the nursing program for fall.
Both LPN and ADN applicants were required to have their transcripts and other forms to the Admissions Office by Jan. 24 for staff to review.
Applicants will likely be notified of acceptance or denial by around Feb. 15.
Admissions director Kelly Conrad said that in order for the staff to work efficiently and quickly through the process, they ask that applicants keep inquiries to a minimum during that time period.
New Course
IVCC will be offering a new course, EDC 1203-403 Educational Technology. The course will provide educators with skills and knowledge in learning technologies to create engaged learning environments.
The course will be an eight-week course and will begin March 7. It will be offered 3:30-6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday in Mendota. Interested students can register by calling 224-0447.
Spring Enrollment
Illinois Valley Community College’s spring semester enrollment is up 15 percent over last year, said Kelly Conrad, director of admissions and records.
Headcount was at 3,858 Jan. 22, a 509-student increase over the same date a year ago, and the number of credit hours was up nearly 13 percent for a total of 33,330 hours.
“We are very encouraged by these numbers,” said IVCC President Jean Goodnow. “I think it shows that
IVCC remains affordable and that we are offering the courses individuals and businesses need.”
The numbers continue a trend at the college. In the fall, enrollment and hours were up 5 percent following record summer numbers, which topped 2,200 students, a 16 percent increase. Last spring head count was up 5 percent and credit hours 7 percent.
Enrollment has more than doubled since IVCC was created in the mid-1960s.
“Spring enrollment has been running ahead since Dec. 9,” said Bob Marshall, vice president of student services. “We are pleased that more and more people in our community are looking to us as a means to career advancement and as the best way to start their work toward a bachelor’s degree.”
“New programs such as graphic arts technology, horticulture, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning have also been factors in the increase,” Marshall added.
Student Government
Spring semester SGA meetings started Jan. 14. Anyone wanting to attend meetings may do so. Meetings begin at 7:15 am and are held every other Tuesday in the Fireplace Lounge. The next meet is Feb. 11.
Student lobby day will be on April 16 in Springfield.
Board of Trustees
Four candidates filed petitions to run for IVCC Board of Trustees seats. The candidates will be on the April 1 ballot.
Incumbents Bill Franklin and Deb Sweeden plan to seek office again. Others filing petitions were David Mallery and David Wilcoxon.
