Students can voice opinions
IV Leader editorial, Oct. 2, 2003
Students, even though they may not realize it, have a huge say in how their school year progresses.
This month alone, IVCC students will have the opportunity to voice their opinions in two separate elections.
The first chance is the Student Government Association elections, which will be Oct. 2 and 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Student Government members sponsor Spirit Day, decide how student fee money is spent and do fundraising for different charities.
Also, the administration contacts members of student government when making decisions on issues that will affect students. By electing those who serve on the student government, we have a direct impact on the decisions they make.
Another opportunity to express our, the students’, opinion is the Faculty Excellence Award.
While students don’t vote for the winner, they are able to nominate a faculty member or counselor who fits the criteria.
The nominee should prepare students for the future, improve students’ skills for employment, motivate students to be active in the community and be active in the community. Students can use this opportunity to recognize a faculty member that has made an impression on them.
Articles on both of these elections are on Page 10 of this issue.
Sometimes, we like to sit back and complain that we don’t have enough say in what goes on around us. These elections give us the opportunity: Let your voice be heard.
