Engstrom presents upcoming concert

Norman Engstrom, instructor of Music and Theatre at IVCC, will be presenting a concert entitled Three Tenors in One at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 in the IVCC Cultural Centre. Admission is free.
Engstrom, before coming to IVCC, spent 30 years performing professionally in theatre, musical theatre and opera. He was based in Chicago and has performed at such theatres as Marriott’s Licolnshire Theatre, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Wisdom Bridge Theatre, Candlelight Dinner Playhouse, Chicago Opera Theatre, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Grand Rapids and Light Opera Works.
Some favorite roles are Noah in “The Rainmaker,” Count Almaviva in “The Barber of Seville,” Charlie in “Brigadoon,” Sky Materson in “Guys and Dolls,” Neville Strange in “Towards Zero,” and Prince Karl Franz in “The Student Prince.”
Engstrom’s educational background includes bachelors’ degrees in Theatre and Music Education from Augustana College and a master’s degree in Acting from the University of Minnesota. He has also had training in the United States and England in voice, mime and stage combat.
This concert will feature a variety of theatrical and musical styles by one performer. It will include songs ranging from folk music to musical comedy to grand opera. There will also be theatre selections and some mime.
Drama and comedy, folk and classical, ancient and contemporary, sound and silence will all be featured with something for almost every musical and theatrical appetite and every age.
