Madrigal recreates the past

A step back in time is what you’ll find at the IVCC Chorale Madrigal later this month.
This 15th century medieval banquet with royal fair is enacted by a marvelous ensemble of students and community members and is directed by Norm Engstrom.
The court will be in costumes of the era, and servers dressed as wenches keep the merriment flowing. Actors sing songs from the 16th to 20th centuries throughout the meal and dance between courses.
A duet of harpsichord and cello will also accompany the actors. A short play, complete with swordfight direct from the 14th century will complete the two-hour fantasy filled evening.
Starved Rock Lodge will host three of the four nights in the Great Hall, Thursday Nov. 20, Friday Nov. 21, and Sunday Nov. 23. The registration table opens at 6 p.m. with the Royal Procession starting at 7 p.m.
Seating will be tables of eight, with a total of 100 seats per fair. Cornish hen, roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, and Figgie pudding will be served. The drink of choice is the cider-like Wassail punch, but a cash bar will also be available.
The price per ticket, per night, for these three nights is $29.95. IVCC’s newly renovated Building C will host one night, Saturday Nov. 22.
The Madrigal opens at 6 p.m. in the front lobby, with the Royal Procession starting at 7 p.m. Seating is still limited to 100, but it is a first come, first served format. Refreshments include finger snacks and soda.
Ticket prices for this show are $3, but don’t be fooled by the price. The quality of the show will be the same; just the food will be different.
Tickets can be obtained at the IVCC Bookstore, located on campus in Building C.
Tickets are also available through Edna Doherty, activities director of Starved Rock Lodge. She can be reached by calling 1-800- 868-7625, Ext. 386, or email ednad@starvedrocklodge.com.
A fun and entertaining evening filled with new and familiar music, blended with good food and stimulating conversation is just the right start to the Christmas season, so come join the festivities in preparation to the holiday season and get your tickets early because last year’s performances were sold out.
