Saturday, Oct. 8 is World Zombie Day, a day for zombie lovers
across the country to celebrate zombie culture. It is also a day to collect
donations for local food pantries.
This year IVCC will join the festivities by holding a zombie
walk on campus. The event, titled “Don’t Feed the Zombie-Feed the Humans,” will
be the first of its kind in the area and feature zombie related activities. The
event is being spearheaded by employees Carey Burns and Kim Herout.
There are two events planned in conjunction with the zombie
walk. The first is a zombie costume contest. Students are encouraged to dress up
in their best zombie costume and take a picture. Pictures will be gathered and
put on display in the lobby for people to vote on. Voting will be Oct. 26 and 27
from 7:30 to 1.
“Students should be as creative as possible, while still
being appropriate,” Herout says.
Deadline for getting pictures in is Oct. 18 and students can
email them to sandy_beard@ivcc.edu or drop them off in C-202. The winner will be
announced Oct. 31 and will be awarded a gift card to the bookstore and have
their picture displayed in the lobby.
Secondly, a raffle basket will out during the “Haunted
Halloween Show.” Patrons can bring a food item in exchange for a raffle ticket
or pay a dollar a ticket or six for $5. All proceeds will go to the Illinois
Valley Food Pantry in La Salle. Voting on the student zombie pictures will also
be available.
