SGA welcomes students, seeks input

SGA UPDATE:
By Caitlin Rinker
SGA President, Sept. 2, 2010

Hello, everyone, and welcome to IVCC for the Fall 2010 semester. First of all, let me introduce myself as Caitlin Rinker. I am a sophomore biology major here at IVCC, and I am also the Student Body President.
To all of the returning students, I am very happy that you came back to spend another year with us at IVCC. I am sure that with one or more years of college under your belt you know how much hard work goes into being a successful student, and you also know how fun and interesting college is.
To the brand new students: WOW! You are beginning your college career at a fantastic institution. I am very excited for you, and I hope that you enjoy your first year at IVCC just as much as I enjoyed mine.
One of the goals of the Student Government Association is to make your transition to IVCC and your time here the best that it can possibly be.
We are the connection between you and the board of education. We want to hear your thoughts and opinions, so either stop by our office right next to the cafeteria or see one of us around school and tell us what you think.
We just finished sponsoring the New Student Convocation day picnic. We hope that you learned a lot about the school and had a great time with the various types of entertainment.
We are now working on freshman elections, and we are looking for people who are interested. The election petitions are available now.
Once you have a petition filled out, you need to turn it in and then campaign until the big elections on Sept. 16 and 17.
Student Government is a great way to get involved in something that is very worthwhile. We work with different charities throughout the year and also sponsor several activities around the school. It looks great on applications for scholarships and four-year universities!
I am looking forward to seeing all of you around school this year. Please let me or one of the other Student Government members know if there is anything that we can do to help you. I am glad that all of you chose this wonderful institution to begin your college career. You have all the tools around you this year to be successful—use them!
As Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.”
