IV Sketchbook Project looks for participants

Sept. 2, 2010

Students with a creative flair can become involved in The Sketchbook Project, a national art project that has a local connection.
The Sketchbook Project asks participants to fill a sketchbook with writing, journaling, doodles, drawing, collages or other artistic endeavors. The national project is being organized by the Arthouse Coop in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Locally, IVCC Graphic Design instructor Francie Skoflanc is coordinating the Illinois Valley Sketchbook Project.
Skoflanc hopes this area will create at least 100 books and that national tour of Sketchbooks will make a stop in this area. Already, Skoflanc said, there are plans for a tour stop of the sketchbooks in Chicago and other urban areas.
Once completed, the books will become part of the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Art Library.
To get involved, students must buy a sketchbook. Locally, the books are being purchased through Skoflanc at a discounted rate of $19.
Students also can find out more about the project on the group’s facebook page, Illinois Valley Sketchbook Project or by contacting Skoflanc at francie_skoflanc@ivcc.edu.
