Women’s tennis team boasts .500 record

    The IVCC women’s tennis team started the season with a 3-0 record, but has since hit .500 with a 3-3 record.
    The early season wins came against Moraine Valley, Sauk Valley and Rock Valley.
    The team then entered a tougher part of the schedule, with more of the suburban Chicago teams.
    The team suffered its first dual loss of the season in a home meet against McHenry at Hegeler Park in La Salle on Sept. 15 with the final score being 7-2. 
    IVCC picked up wins at No. 6 singles where Jani Hurst defeated Laura Gallagher 6-2, 7-6 and at No. 3 doubles where Sam Debosik and Stephanie Castaneda teamed up to beat Gina Wilke and Gallagher 9-7. 
    In losing efforts, Michaela Nelson fell 3-6, 5-7 at No. 1, Chelsey Strickler fell 1-6, 1-6 at No. 2, Claire Kunkel lost 1-6, 1-6 at No. 3, Jana Anderson lost 0-6, 1-6, and Stephanie Castaneda fell 0-6, 1-6. 
    The team suffered a loss to Lake County on Sept. 20 in games played at Moraine Valley. IVCC went 0-9 .
No. 6 Castaneda pushed her match to three sets (6-2, 3-6, 5-10) as did the No. 1 doubles team of Nelson and Keli Pytel (6-3, 3-6, 6-10). 
    Singles losses also were recorded by Pearson at N0. 1, Nelson at No. 2, Pytel at No. 3, Anderson at No. 4, and Hurst at No. 5.
    IVCC will wrap up their regular season at home at Hegeler Park against Waubonsee on Monday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. 
    The Lady Eagles will then compete in regionals at Moraine Valley from Oct. 1 through Oct. 3.
