The IVCC volleyball team has got off to a rocky start, struggling in the early stages of the season.
The Eagles, coached by Julie Sherbeyn, have compiled a 2-11 record and are 0-2 in the Arrowhead Conference.
The Eagles picked up their second win Sept. 18 during the IVCC Invitational, a home tournament.
The Eagles defeated Elgin in a four-game match, 27-25, 23-25, 25-13 and 25-14 to secure the win.
Randi Toynton of Ottawa scored 13 for the Eagles, while La Salle-Peru graduate Sam Deters added 12 and Bri Pohl of Mendota added 11.
L-P Christian graduate Aimee Piontek led the Eagles in kills in the game against Elgin with 13. Kenzie Mogged of Flanagan added 12 and Emily Cagan of Mendota added 11.
The win against Elgin was the Eagles’ only win of the invitational.
The Eagles dropped matches to Harper, Waubonsee and Lincoln, with all of the matches going four games each.
Deters led the team in scoring for the day, compiling 49 points.
Piontek led the team in kills for the day with 37, while Mogged and Cagan each added 32.
The Eagles continue to push most of their opponents into four-game matches.
In a Sept. 14 conference match, the Eagles won their first game against Black Hawk 25-23 then came up two points short in the next game and once again in the third game.
In the final game of the match, the Eagles fell short losing 15-25, ultimately causing them to drop to 1-7.
The Eagles return home on Sept. 28 for a 6 p.m. contest against conference foe Black Hawk East. They have two additional home games Oct. 5-6 vs. St. Ambrose JV and Black Hawk.
Students can attend the games free with a student ID.
