IVCC Student Trustee, Sept. 23, 2010

Hello, everyone, my name is David Zallis. I am the member of the SGA who takes on the role of student trustee here at IVCC. For those of you who didn’t attend last year and may not know what a student trustee actually does, let me recap an explanation I gave at the end of last semester.
The student trustee acts as the buffer between the students and the board of trustees. If there are questions or comments the students have with the procedures of the school, they can come to me, and I can address the board directly on their behalf. It is also up to me to let you know what is new with the happenings of the board.
With that said, here are some notable incidents from the Aug. 26 board meeting. There are some new staff appointments: Diane M. Scoma as a new Project Success counselor, Drew A. McConville appointed as a new research analyst, and Jenna S. Stinson as the new theatre technical coordinator.
IVCC has also entered a partnership agreement with St. Francis Medical Center College of Nursing to help make the transition smoother for nursing students planning to attend. I am sure this will be much appreciated since we do have a lot of hard working nursing students at the school.
Speaking of helping students prepare for their future, the deadline for fall graduation is also coming up on Friday, Oct. 1, so make sure you get the necessary paperwork filled out if you are planning to graduate. You can go to the records and admissions office and they will help you on your way.
Good luck to everyone starting their second eight-week classes as well. Hopefully, everyone is ready for them to start on Oct. 13 and was able to make good use of the extra time at the beginning of the semester.
Before we leave each other though, I would also like to encourage everyone to visit the Cherry Mine disaster exhibit, located on the lower level of the “E” building Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. going on through October. For those who have not been, it is a great visual way to travel back to the time of the disaster and be able to experience an important part of the history in this area.
I hope everyone has a great month and keep it up! We are already over five weeks through the semester!
