IV Leader, Sept. 3, 2009
Larry Huffman of Peru, former Illinois Valley Community College and Kankakee Community College President, was appointed to the IVCC Board of Trustees in August.
Huffman filled the vacancy created by the June 25 resignation of trustee Paula Endress of Earlville.
“I am sure Dr. Huffman’s many years of experience in the Illinois community college system will prove to be invaluable to all IVCC stakeholders as we chart our course for the future,” said IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.
“I have a deep-rooted personal interest in IVCC and the Illinois Valley area and I appreciate this appointment,” said Huffman. “IVCC has a long, proud history, and I welcome the opportunity to again work with the board, administrators, faculty and staff.”
Huffman began his community college career as IVCC’s dean of student development from 1974-1977. He then served in various positions at Kankakee Community College, including president from 1987 to 2001.
He then worked in the private sector before being named IVCC president in May 2006. He served until June 2007.
Huffman earned his Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Illinois and his master’s and bachelor’s from Western Illinois University. He and his wife Chris, a native of Tonica, are members of the IVCC Foundation’s 21st Century Scholars .
