Action, adventure staples of ‘G.I. Joe’

REEL REVIEWS

I bet you all remember turning on your television sets and, at some point and time, viewing a commercial in which an announcer with a deep voice advertised the latest “G.I. Joe” toy.
I would also bet that most of you guys (and tomboyish girls) remember looking at your parents and saying, “I want that toy!”
Well, G.I. Joe has moved from toys and animation to the big screen in “G.I Joe: Rise of the Cobra,” a step that many have been longing for.
What the movie had: It definitely qualifies as an action movie, for there wasn’t much else but action, except for the occasional plot thickener and important happening scenes. The flow of the movie was fairly good as well, and you definitely wouldn’t fall asleep during this film.
The No. 1 upside had to be the special effects. Holy Cow! I haven’t seen special effects like this in a long time! The explosions were amazing, and all the animation looked fairly real.
What the movie didn’t have: The story plot was way too unoriginal. The “protect the goods from the bad guys, oh no they stole them, got to get them back before they destroy the world” theme made it a little less interesting, but not enough to get up and leave.
It also could have used a little bit more action than it had, but the movie makers made up for that by pumping up the action scenes they did have to the max. Plus the use of having futuristic technology is a bit old, but they got away with it.
Why it’s rated PG13: There is a decent amount of profanity in this movie, and some of the ladies are dressed to show off their “femaleness.” and there are a couple steamy kisses, so parents you may not want to take younger kids to this movie.
