IV Leader Staff, Nov. 5, 2009
Clay Zavada, originally from Streator, will be honored by retiring his IV baseball number during halftime of the men’s basketball home opener game.
Zavada was called up to pitch for the Arizona Diamondbacks of the MLB earlier this year in May.
While at IVCC, he pitched two years for the Eagles under Coach Bob Koopman.
Zavada had a stellar first year in the majors having a 3.35 ERA, while striking out 52 batters in 51 innings coming out of the bullpen.
Fake mustaches will be handed out in imitation of Zavada’s signature handlebar moustache.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in the gym.
