Construction for the new East Campus student parking lot
began a lot earlier than first projected with contractors on site, and the
gravel parking lot being closed, on Monday, Sept. 22.
According to Cheryl Roelfsma, the earlier start date of
construction will have no affect on the project’s budget or previous plans.
Roelfsma noted, however, that construction may cause some
“inconveniences for staff and students,” but “it will add an additional
approximate 280 spaces in closer proximity to the building.”
“We know there are going be some disruptions and
inconvenience, but we ask for everyone’s cooperation in making our campus more
user-friendly,” Roelfsma said.
During construction, the gravel parking lot will be limited
to about 80 spaces and East Campus parking will be available on a first come,
first serve basis by permit only.
The office of Academic Affairs has issued permits to the
faculty members who teach on the East Campus and those permits will be
distributed by the instructors to students currently enrolled in their classes.
If they have not already received one, students should contact their instructors
for a permit. Students who do not have classes on East Campus should park
elsewhere until the lot is completed.
