Dancing in the Windy City:
Experiencing salsa lessons and ‘Dirty Dancing’ live

A Dancer’s View

IVCC is going to take a twist in their education on Nov. 19 when students, I being one, take a trip to the windy city of Chicago to see a live performance of the classic, “Dirty Dancing.”
With a fee of only $179, we have a lot in store during this unforgettable trip. We will load onto a bus at 7 a.m. and make our way to Chicago where we will have a guide with us throughout our whole trip.
Our first stop on the tour, we will be dropped off at the Academy of Salsa where we will get ourselves prepared for the dancing that we will witness later on in the day. We will meet up with a professional Salsa instructor who will teach us the moves and everything we need about Salsa dancing.
Students have the choice of getting up there with him and doing the Salsa, or watching and cheering for their friends from the sidelines.
As a dancer, I will be getting up there with him and doing the Salsa; these things come once in a lifetime and I wouldn’t miss a chance like this.
Dancing is an exciting sport, but you really work up a sweat and an appetite. Giving us a chance to rest our feet, we will fill our hungry stomachs with amazing Italian food from Maggiano’s.
While enjoying food served family style, we will be learning about a different type of culture and enjoy a different way of eating.
After our feast, we will make our way to the moment we all had been waiting for — “Dirty Dancing” live.
The story behind “Dirty Dancing” is a classic love story between the two lives: 17 year old Frances “Baby” Houseman, a New Yorker who is vacationing with her Jewish family at Kellerman’s, and Johnny Castle, a dance instructor from the wrong side of the tracks, who end up falling in love.
The Broadway musical tries to keep it original as possible with a few twists; more dancing and a few songs added, giving the play more excitement and making the viewers actually feel like they are in the movie.
With only a fee of $179, this trip will teach you different dances, different cultural and allow students to have a trio of a lifetime.
Being a dancer myself, this will be a walk to remember, an unforgettable event.
