With only nine players on the roster, and just three of those returning from last year’s squad, the Lady Eagles may not have a lot of bench for substitutions.
Third-year coach Nicci Gibson believes that this is not entirely a bad thing. Gibson noted that because of the small team size, her players maintain a higher level of play, since there are not a lot of players on the bench to replace them.
Even though the Lady Eagles may lack players, they certainly have no shortage of talent. According to Gibson, her players are putting up some impressive numbers. Heather Safranski, the team’s setter, has 206 assists in only eight games this season.
Stacey Kinzer, Sammi Cook and Rebecca Folmar are also putting up some good kill numbers from the front line.
The Lady Eagles are off to a 3-5 start on the young season, and hope to contend for one of the top three spots in the Arrowhead Conference.
Coach Gibson says that one of her main goals this season besides a strong conference finish, is for her team to grow and mature in every single game they play.
