We at the IV Leader staff recently heard that the great Bobby Dylan would be coming to Illinois soon. As old as he is getting, he is probably still a sight to see. Dylan’s lyrics have always been really good to point out the swiftness and gravity of changes — political, mental and emotional.
But he comes to the area a little too late —Illinois Valley Community College is already going through quite a bit of change.
New to the IVCC campus are the additions of Wi-Fi, three new faculty and and a new dean and soft pretzels in the cafeteria. (Get ‘em while they’re hot!)
It is also the first year that Spirit Day has been preceded by Convocation, a formal ceremony that welcomed new students to the community college atmosphere.
We also have a few pending changes to face. Consider the current state of the athletic department. Will Eagle athletes be forced to attend other institutions, or will all students submit to a fee increase of $3 per credit hour? A referendum will not be conducted until Spring, leaving the school year open to deliberating the possibilities.
Other changes are less apparent because they are of the day-to-day variety--haircuts, personal goals, post-school activities and etc.
Nevertheless, we cannot deny the waters around us have grown —literally, thus our first-week flood day.
