Six seek student government positions

Student Government Association will have its freshman elections Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14. Students may vote between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Lobby.
Prospective SGA candidates handed in their petitions by Sept. 7. Six students will be seeking office.
Emily Brodzik and Melissa Melau will be competing for SGA freshman representative. One will chosen by the students to serve.
Cassie Fuller, Steve Newcomer, Justin Miller and Ryan Siska have turned in petitions for the programming board. Two of these candidates will be chosen by the students to serve.
SGA President Michelle Franklin said that any students who did not turn in a petition but are interested in running may still pursue a write-in campaign.
To do so, candidates do not need to turn in a petition. They may rely on word of mouth to get their name on the ballot.
“I hope all students take advantage of their right to vote,” said Franklin.
“The students are the ones in charge of electing someone to represent their concerns and opinions. We have some significant issues to be dealt with this year that will affect all students, and we want to represent them well.”
Any questions can be directed to Michelle Franklin or other members of the SGA.
The SGA office is located in Room C-202, and is reachable by phone at 815-224-0247.
