IV Leader Staff, Sept. 13, 2007
Sue Isermann, associate vice president for career and technical education and co-sponsor of GSA, was appointed interim vice president for academic affairs on July 13.
As VP, Isermann oversees “all things related to the ‘academic side’ or instructional side of the college; faculty, curriculum, courses, schedules, including our programs at the Sheridan Correctional Center.” She also works with district high schools and businesses.
Isermann, who was named to the post after the resignation of Harriet Custer, said, “I felt that I could provide some stability and continuity particularly for the faculty and the deans. I want to insure that our students have the best possible learning opportunities with the best faculty. And that the faculty have the resources and support they need to provide high quality learning. My personal metaphor for my job to ‘keep the wheels on the bus and keep the bus headed in the right direction’.”
Isermann expects the search for a new IVCC president to progress before a search for the vice president begins.
When asked if she would take the job permanently if it were offered to her, she said that she would. “I am really enjoying it. Sometimes the schedule can get to be pretty busy with meeting after meeting, but I like the challenge and it is a great opportunity for me. I now feel I am in a position to help make a positive difference in all of our students’ futures.”
