The IVCC Women’s Volleyball team began the second half of its season with a bang. Winning a huge five-game thriller at home against Highland on Sept. 25, the Lady Eagles notched their second conference win of the season.
In a season where victories are hard to come by, the win was a great boost to the Lady Eagles’ confidence. The Highland match was the first time in more than three seasons that IVCC has beaten Highland in volleyball.
Coach Nicci Gibson said that the victory was “a big team effort.” And it truly was. Four team members contributed double digit stats on offense and defense.
Two front line players, Stacey Kinzer and Sami Cook, tallied nearly 20 kills apiece. Cook also helped out on the defensive end with 19 digs in the match. Melanie Klieber contributed a total of 18 digs.
Setter Heather Safranski had a good game on the offensive side, contributing 40 assists on the night.
Gibson thought during the match, “for once all season everybody was on.”
The Lady Eagles return to action at home on Wednesday Oct. 10 with a game against Black Hawk.
