The Student Government Association recently conducted its freshman elections, and 377 total votes were cast.
Emily Brodzik was elected freshman representative. Four students, Cassie Fuller, Justin Miller, Steve Newcomer and Ryan Siska, ran for the programming board.
Ryan Siska took the most votes, followed by a tie between Cassie Fuller and Justin Miller. Because programming board officer is a non-voting position, the two tied were both allowed to serve.
Fuller, one of the members of the programming board, said that she ran because “it sounded like a good way to meet new people and to have fun.”
Cory Tomasson, Student Activities Coordinator, said, "This was the largest voter turnout that we have had in the 14 years that I have been at IVCC. However, I think that with so many people running for the positions, the fact that there were contested races for each spot, and the active campaigning by the candidates, there was bound to be a large number of votes cast.”
Michelle Franklin is president of the Student Government Association.
