PHILLIPS TO ATTEND GEOLOGY CONVENTION
    Illinois Valley Community College geology professor Mike Phillips will be giving a presentation at the 119th annual meeting of the Geological Society of America to be held Oct. 27-31 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. Phillips is the chair of a session on geoscience in the community called “Public Policy, Education, School Board, Society.” Presentations will focus on the use of geoscientific careers in schools, politics and the local community. Phillips will give a specific presentation called “Diving in the Deep End: Experiences Running For and Serving in Elected Office.” It outlines the benefits of professors becoming involved in local school boards and other forms of public office, more specifically Phillips’s experience as a Lostant School Board member.

ADDITIONAL CNA CLASSES OFFERED
    Illinois Valley Community College will be offering an additional Certified Nursing Assistant class section beginning in October. These classes will be held Oct. 15 through Dec. 15 on Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Lectures will be given on the IVCC campus. GRADUATION DEADLINE EXTENDED
     For those students that missed the Oct. 1 graduation date the deadline it has been extended to Thursday, Oct. 11. There is no fee to apply for graduation; however, students do need to apply to earn their degree or certificate. Graduation application forms are available in the Admissions and Records Office.

SIFE sells caramel apples
    Students in Free Enterprise will sell taffy apples through Oct. 16. Each apple will cost $2.

PLANNING BEGINS FOR SPRING REGISTRATION
    Students are being encouraged to make appointments with counselors now so that they are prepared for spring registration. The first day of registration will be Oct. 29 for the spring semester. Online registration will be available that day.
