Clothesline Project scheduled

Oct.. 4, 2007

IVCC’s ADV/SAS will host Clothesline Project at IVCC on Oct. 8-11.
The Clothesline is hung with shirts decorated by victims, friends, family members, or those who want to help in the war against violence against women.
By displaying the shirts director Natalie Alexander hopes to raise awareness on campus about domestic violence and sexual assault. The community is invited to view the display which will be in the main lobby.
Anyone who would like to participate must follow the guidelines for creating a shirt and drop it off at the Counseling Department at IVCC before Oct. 8.
The Clothesline Project display also includes blank shirts that observers may choose to design themselves during the week of the display. The guidelines include a color code: White represents women who died because of violence; Yellow or beige represents battered or assaulted women; Red, pink, and orange are for survivors of rape and sexual assault; Blue and green T-shirts represent survivors of incest and sexual abuse; Purple or lavender represents women attacked because of their sexual orientation; Black is for women attacked for political reasons.
