Halloween doesn’t have to die for adults

Editorial: Oct. 25, 2007

It’s true that fall can be a great season for cool weather and beautiful trees changing color. That alone can put anyone in a great mood, but fall also holds one the greatest holidays of the year — Halloween.
Halloween falls during that perfect time in the semester right near the middle when most of us hard-working students need a well-deserved break. Tests, homework, quizzes and long reading assignments can wear a body down and Halloween is a great way to stop being so serious for a night, let loose and have some fun.
Sure, maybe most of us college students are too old to go out trick-or-treating (although some still try!) but this doesn’t mean that our Halloween night is dead.
There are even events occurring on the IVCC campus that can help one indulge in Halloween entertainment. “Dracula Baby” is showing in the IVCC Cultural Center four days in a row and is a perfect way to start feeling in the Halloween mood. And honestly, the cast and crew worked so hard they deserve some support and praise.
The River Currents Literary Magazine group is also putting on a “Fright Night Film Fest” with some help from the Student Government Association. They are showing two free horror movies in the IVCC Cultural Center the night before Halloween (one old, one new) and having a costume contest with prizes.
So, let’s stop the seriousness for one night! Be a kid again; take in all the Halloween fun and support our campus organizations.
