Bigelow to speak at conference
Illinois Valley Community College Political Science professor Amanda Bigelow will participate in a conference, “Globalization’s Impact and Model Global Programs at Community Colleges in the U.S.” at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Wednesday, Nov. 14 and Thursday, Nov. 15. This conference explores the impact of globalization and examines successful global education programs at community colleges around the United States. It is sponsored by World View, a program which helps faculty and students integrate international study and global perspective into curricula.
IVCC hosts College Night
Illinois Valley Community College will host the 35th annual College Night on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the IVCC gymnasium. Representatives from 48 colleges, universities and military branches will be present. Director of Financial Aid Steve Crick will also be giving a brief presentation at 6 p.m. to discuss the fundamentals of financial aid. Faculty/Staff Enrichment Day
Faculty/Staff Enrichment Day is Tuesday, Nov. 13. All regularly scheduled full-time and part-time staff will attend a number will attend both morning and afternoon sessions. Part-time staff who are not regularly scheduled are still encouraged to attend. All regularly scheduled classes are
cancelled.
Coburn wins award
Illinois Valley Community College professor Tara Coburn has been named the Midwest Outstanding New Faculty Member by the National Council of Teachers of English. The award recognizes professors of two-year institutions early in their careers who show appropriate instructional methods and produce significant results in students. Coburn was nominated by fellow English professor Delores Robinson and students supplied letters of support.
