Sept.19th issue of IV Leader

    Graduation application deadline set Students are reminded that the deadline to apply for graduation is Monday, Oct. 2. Students must apply if they want to receive their degree or certificate. The application is not about attending the ceremony. The cost is $20, with $5 for any additional diplomas or certificates requested at the same time. Forms are available in the Office of Admissions and Records and on the web at www.ivcc.edu/admissions.

    WLO plans Day of the Dead activities The World Language Organization is hosting two days of cultural activities in the IVCC Lobby. Students are invited to join WLO from noon to 3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 and 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 1.     College visits planned Interested in meeting representatives from a wide variety of Illinois universities? University reps will be visiting campus, giving students a chance to find out more about these institutions. Upcoming visits are planned Oct. 10 from St. Francis, Oct. 17 from Eureka, Oct. 25 from Aurora, Oct. 26 from St. Francis, Oct. 27 from Northern Illinois University and Nov. 1 from University of Illinois at Springfield. The college representatives will be located at tables in the lobby.

    Blood drive scheduled for Oct. 5 The Student Nurse’s Association will host a Red Cross blood and bone marrow drive Thursday, October 5 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the IVCC gym. Students can make an appointment by contacting the nursing division office at 224-0487 as soon as possible.

    Reception planned for IVCC president Illinois Valley Community College’s Board of Trustees is hosting a reception on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Fireplace Lounge to honor IVCC’s new president Larry Huffman. Huffman was hired as the ninth president of IVCC on July 1. Huffman and his wife Chris reside in Peru.

    Dialog planned on being gay in IV An open dialog will be hosted from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 in Rooms C-325 and C-326. A panel of speakers will discuss the questions and answers about being gay in the Illinois Valley. The aim is to gain a better understanding of what it's like being gay and living, working and raising a family in this community. The event is sponsored by POWER and the Student Nurses Association
