The results of the 2006-2007 Student Government Association election are in, and Elizabeth Kunkel is the new freshman representative.

When asked for her reaction upon receiving the news, Kunkel replied, “I was extremely excited to hear that I was elected because Student Government was one of the activities at IV that I really wanted to get involved in. I was also sort of relieved because I heard that originally I was the only student running for freshman rep.” She continued, “When I went to vote, there were three names on the ballot: my name and two other students. So, not only did I feel honored and grateful that people voted for me, but I also felt relieved.”

With regard to her goals as freshman representative, Kunkel wants to thank the students who voted for her and promised, “In whatever needs to be done, I will work my hardest to accomplish it. I also want [the students] to know that if they ever have any suggestions, they shouldn’t be afraid to talk to me.” Kunkel was motivated to involve herself in student government as a means to become more involved in the community. Her brother’s experiences as a part of the student government also influenced her decision to run, as “He liked it very much, had a great time, and learned a lot of new things.”

Michelle Franklin and Bill Zens were jointly elected to the freshman programming board, which coordinates and promotes student activities on campus. Franklin said, “The president, Jenna Moore, talked to me last year about her experiences in government; that's when I first got interested. Now I get to experience it for myself. I ran because I thought student government would help me become involved in more projects throughout IV and in the community.” Her goal as a member of the board is to “to get involved in many activities at the college. I'm willing to listen to what the students have to say about the school and do my best to alleviate their concerns.”
