 ‘Covenant’ original, occasionally engaging

In the week of Sept. 18, “The Covenant,” starring Steven Strait, Sebastian Stan, Taylor Kitsch, Toby Hemingway and Laura Ramsey, was fourth in the box office ratings.

I am still questioning why it is in the top 5. Although the trailer made the movie look interesting, it was quite dull. The dialogue was not very intriguing, the acting was so-so and the characters had virtually no background stories to them. The fight scenes looked incredibly fake and too rehearsed to even believe or get in to. Along with that, the movie played up the sex factor too much.

In a nutshell, it was girls in their underwear and hot guys doing magic.

On the other hand, the chemistry between the characters was quite believable. Also, there were a few scenes with exciting action, and the little suspense it had worked well with the movie.

Overall, it was an okay movie with an attempt at an original plot. I would not recommend seeing this movie in theaters unless all you wanted to do was stare at cute guys for two hours. Altogether, I would give this movie 3 stars.
