Golf finished up its fall season on Oct. 1st at the
Prairie View Regional tournament in Byron with the team finishing fourth after
being seeded as fourth.
Coach Mike Riley laughingly said “Maybe there is something to
this seeding; we came in right where they said we were.” He went on to say that
he was disappointed because the team was “always on the brink.”
“Our guys did an admirable job in some tough situations
but being consistent this season has been our downfall. Besides Adam [Winans],
we didn’t know what to expect from our players on any given day. It was hard to
get four good scores.”
Sophomore Winans finished the tournament shooting 75, 77, and
73 and ended the season as the winner of the region, which qualifies him for
national tournaments.
Sophomore Pat Quinn from Streator will be Winans alternate.
Riley said, “Adam is probably in the top 20 for junior
college golfers in the nation. He has a good chance to make all-American this
year.”
The team starts its conference meets in the spring and Riley
is optimistic to “see what we can do about fine tuning our play over the next
few months.”
