Engstrom celebrates 40 years of performance
IV Leader Staff, Nov 9, 2006
IVCC professor, Norman Engstrom, will be presenting his
annual concert on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 pm. in the IVCC Cultural Centre.
This year’s program is a celebration of the 40 years that
Professor Engstrom has spent performing in the theatre. Most recently, since
moving to the Illinois Valley, he has directed productions at Stage 212, Engle
Lane Theatre and River Valley Players and has been seen on the stage of The
Court Street Cabaret in Ottawa.
As with past programs there will be musical numbers,
monologues, piano and mime. The songs are from the last 500 years of music
history, ranging from folk music to musical comedy to grand opera.
The monologues are audition pieces, dramatic and comic, that
Engstrom has used during his 25 years as a professional actor in Chicago. The
piano solo this year will be performed by Mary Schallhorn, professional pianist
and IVCC professor, who also accompanies the songs. Engstrom will also be joined
by IVCC student and faculty performers.
There is something of interest in the program for people of
all ages. This will be the first major theatrical event to be held in the newly
renovated IVCC Cultural Centre, as Tom Schultz, IVCC technical theatre director,
will be using special lighting effects with the newly installed equipment.
Admission is free and open to the public.
