Fantasy football is back

The NFL regular season is finally upon us, and for most fans that means that every Sunday from now until Jan. 1 is booked.

As the season opens, more than just the NFL is debuting. It marks the beginning of fantasy football leagues everywhere.

Fantasy football has skyrocketed to become one of the most played games world-wide. This analysis turned competition is featured on many popular web sites, but it’s not just the computer version that has exploded. People all over the world gather in garages to draft their team and ultimately their chance to win.

There are many different types of leagues, anywhere from auction leagues to keeper leagues.

An auction league is when participants sit in a circle and bring up the name of any player they want on their team. Once they bring up a name, everyone is allowed to bet an amount of money on that player, with the winning bidder getting that player.

In the dynasty league, you draft the same way initially, but the next season you can keep every player from last season, if you want to. The only players you draft are rookies and players that have been waived.

The keeper league is the most widely used form of fantasy football. Under this system, people can keep players but only a limited number.

All leagues are different, but you may be able to only keep one player per position, or only three players total.

No matter what type of league someone resides in, they are apart of the national phenomenon known as fantasy football. So as the season begins and TIVO’s everywhere are programmed to record games upon kickoff, fans watch more than just the game. Most are constantly checking stats and calling their fantasy opponent bragging about their stats.         This fantasy football craze has catapulted the NFL to the heights of news headlines and all together popularity. Hopefully, your team has enough stars to make it to the playoffs - at least that’s what I’m hoping for.
