Editorial: Powerful Reminder
In the wake of something as
horrible as Hurricane Katrina, we struggle to find any speck of good among the
awful. So far, we haven’t found much, rather we have turned to finger pointing,
excuse making and claims of discrimination. Whether any good will come from
those things is debatable.
So here’s what we think: the message to be understood here
may be that we aren’t as powerful as we think we are.
We go about day to day lives, often not thinking about what
is going on around the world, or even in our own country. We see ourselves as
ruling the world, controling the events that take place around us . And then
something completely uncontrollable, like Katrina, happens upon our now
seemingly small world and tears things up, leaving us all in a state of shock
and bewilderment, wondering, how did this happen to us?
It just goes to show we don’t control everything and none of
us, from whatever corner of the globe, will ever be the most powerful.
There will always be something greater than all of us,
whatever that might be.
