I-READ Book Sale SET
The Illinois Valley Community College I-READ Adult Literacy Program will sponsor a Books Are Fun Book Sale Monday, Nov. 21 and Tuesday, Nov. 22 in the IVCC main lobby.
The book fair will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday and will benefit the I-READ program, which serves students learning English as a second language and adult learners who test below the ninth-grade level in reading or math.
I-READ trains volunteer tutors and then matches them with adult learners wanting to improve their English, math or reading skills.
For more information, contact Angela Dunlap, I-READ program manager, at 224-0372 or through angie_dunlap@ivcc.edu.
English class Offered
A new English class will be available for Spring 2006. Kirk Lockwood will teach the Technical and Business writing class.
The course focuses on the types of writing students are likely to write in a business or technical setting — reports, proposals, abstracts, letters, e-mail, instructions. The course will also focus on problem-solving skills.
The course is accepted by all Illinois state schools as an elective. Students should talk to their IVCC counselors and their transfer school to find out how ENG 2000 would fit into their curriculum requirements at the transfer school.
The class is also ideal for students already in the workplace who want to improve their writing skills and increase their chances for advancement or to make themselves more marketable for other positions.
The course will be delivered entirely online. The class is not self-paced; there will be deadlines.

Annual Concert SET
Illinois Valley Community College will hold this year’s annual concert, "The Game of Love" by Norman Engstrom, IVCC music and theatre professor, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 in the Cultural Centre.
Engstrom will be accompanied by Mary Schallhorn, pianist.
The concert will feature a variety of music dealing with relationships including meeting, dating, marriage, children and remembering. Admission is free.
For more information call Engstrom at 224-0279.
