Softball team wins Arrowhead Conference

The IVCC Softball Team clinched the Arrowhead Conference Championship on April 29 with two wins over Carl Sandburg College.
The Eagles finished the regular season with a 24-11 overall record, while going 15-5 in conference play.
“This is really exciting for this team. We were co-champions two years ago, but this is the first year we have won the championship out right. Blackhawk College has won this title for the past 10 years, so this is quite an accomplishment within the conference” says Coach Cory Tomasson.
In the games, IVCC defeated Carl Sandburg 11-1 and 6-1.
In summing up the wins, Coach Bob Reese stated, “We played very well in both of those games. Our defense, especially our outfield, was very strong. If we play like that in the regional games, we can beat any team there.”
The regional games began with one game at home on May 4.
If the team won that best two-out-of-three game contest, it would advance to the Regional Final Four.
Those games are being held at Katz Park in Dekalb on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8. The Final Four is run as a double elimination format.
According to Tomasson, “We are tremendously proud of these players. Every single player has contributed to this year’s team. Our pitching has been pretty consistent, we have out hit our opponents significantly, and they never give up a game without a fight. We have come from behind to win many crucial games this year. That is the sign of a good team.”
