At the end of this school year, Illinois Valley Community College will say goodbye to one of its instructors, Pat Cole.
Cole will be retiring to Guatemala, where she will “raise our adopted daughter, who is now 2 years old, and enjoy my garden, full of bananas, mangos, papaya, cinnamon, coffee, etc…”
Also while there, she will continue her research on gender; she is partnered in completing this research with Illinois State University, Loyola University in Chicago, and the University of Wisconsin.
Cole has been teaching at IVCC for 10 years. She teaches classes such as Gender, Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Social Research, Sociology of Family, and independent studies.
Before coming to IVCC, Cole taught at ISU in the sociology department. and this included teaching within the State of Illinois Corrections System. From there, she entered the Doctorate Program at Loyola University and served in a research post.
When asked what she will miss most about IVCC, Cole said, “her friends and students.” She has also enjoyed her stay here in the Illinois Valley, saying “Yes, I enjoyed my time here, and I am particularly looking forward to retirement in Guatemala.”
