Men’s tennis team is getting ready is begin its season.
The team is practicing at Court One across from the Peru Mall at least twice a week.
It is difficult for the men to get a good practice in because they only have one court to practice on until the weather clears up, coach Steve Swett said.
The only returning players from last year are Matt Santman from St. Bede and Thomas Myers from Princeton.
The new players are Adam Gehant from Hall, Chris Herbert from Mendota, and Robert Kline, Clayton McKnight and Brad Shinnick from L-P.
There are two players, Thomas and Robert, up for the No. 1 spot. The following positions are still up for grabs.
In doubles, it is still undecided until after the first couple games; currently the men are just switching partners to see who plays well with whom.
Swett said the team’s weakness is having mostly freshmen, but he said a young team also has its advantages in speed and quickness.
Swett hopes to place first or second in regionals.
The team’s first match is March 6 vs. Lake County.
