Tenure approved for nine faculty members
Feb. 26, 2004
The board of trustees in February approved tenure for nine instructors.
Dawn Wiggins, Ottawa, math; Sameer Haider, Peru, computer networking; R. Larry Alt, Ottawa, chemistry lab instructor; Jeffrey Fesperman, Ottawa, geography; David Gordon, Putnam, economics; Amanda Bigelow, Ottawa, political science; Norman Engstrom, La Salle, choral music and theatre; Merri Mattison, La Salle, sociology; and Francie Skoflanc, La Salle, graphic arts technology, were all granted tenure by the board.
Vice President of Academic Affairs Harriet Custer said faculty are eligible for tenure in the last semester of their third year of teaching and after undergoing a rigorous evaluation process.
Custer explained that faculty are required to prepare a portfolio illustrating their teaching expertise and contributions to the college and community.
Members of the college board reviewed those professional portfolios prior to the board meeting.
